Do you pick-up on holidays?
Shawnee Sanitations works certain holidays. If your collection day falls on a holiday please set out your garbage the night before, or by no later than 7:00 AM on your collection day.
If you are a customer of Shawnee Sanitation, the following holidays are observed:
When should I set my garbage containers out for pick-up?
Please set out your garbage containers in a visible location the night before your regular collection day, or by no later than 6:00AM on your collection day. As our area grows, collection times in your neighborhood may change. Do not place your cart next to any objects (car, fence, mailbox, etc.) that may impede access to your containers. The handles of the cart must be pointed away from the street in order for our automated equipment to empty the cart. Any extras that you might have need to be place FIRST in the cart. If once the cart is full, place them at least 3 feet away from the cart. All items must be bag, boxed, or bundled to the following dimensions 5′ x 2′ x 2′, and not to exceed 65 pounds.
What should I do if my pick-up is missed due to weather or poor road conditions?
Please call our offices for any schedule changes (740) 354-2275 or listen to the Radio. In case of bad weather or Holidays listed above, your garbage (including any material missed) will be collected on your next regularly scheduled pick-up. Garbage is collected on the next pick-up, no credit will be issued.
If I missed my garbage pick-up, can I have someone come back out for pick up?
No. In most cases, if you forget to put your containers out before our trucks arrive, it will be collected on your next regularly scheduled pick-up.
I just moved and have a large amount of cardboard. Where can I go to recycle it?
Please contact us at (740) 354-2275 or refer to the locations map to find the nearest location that accepts cardboard. Regular, larger quantities of cardboard from home-based or commercial locations may require commercial recycling bins. For scheduling and delivery of such a container, contact us at (740) 354-2275.
Do you collect hazardous wastes?
NO. Only non-hazardous solid waste can be disposed of through your garbage service with Shawnee Sanitation. We also DO NOT accept Tires, batteries, Paint Cans-full or empty, Air Conditionaer or Refirgerators.
Do you accept fluorescent lamps?
Fluorescent lamps and high intensity discharge lamps (HID) are no longer being accepted for disposal in the trash due to their mercury content. For your safety do not break tubes.
Can I dispose of liquids in the garbage?
Small quantities of household liquids such as cooking oils and beauty products are acceptable as long as they are in a sealed container. Any free flowing liquids are not accepted. Please properly recycle your household generated fluids such as paint thinners, solvents, etc.
Will Shawnee Sanitation pick-up my old burn barrel?
We can only accept empty barrels (no ashes).
What if I lose my garbage container or it’s stolen?
Please call our office at (740) 354-2275 to arrange for the delivery of a new container. Depending on the situation a fee may be applied to your next bill. Please do not take garbage containers with you if you move unless it is directed by a Shawnee Sanitation operator. All garbage containers provided by Shawnee Sanitation are the property of Shawnee Sanitation.
Are there any kinds of yard wastes you do not accept?
No. To us, all yard wastes produced at your home are the same as garbage. We can accept materials such as grass clippings, garden trimmings, weeds, branches and leaves. Yard waste is accepted both in regular collection and at the Shawnee Sanitation. Depending on the waste, fees may be incurred depending on the situation.
If I put out extra bags of home-created garbage on my normal pick-up day, will I be charged extra?
No. As long as the garbage has come from your home, there will be no extra charges on your monthly statement. Remember that all extra garbage must be “bagged, boxed, or bundled” to the following dimensions 5′ x 2′ x 2′. Please make sure you completely fill your garbage containers before placing additional garbage outside of the container. If you do not, additional charges may apply.
Depending on where you live, there may be additional charges for extra garbage. Please call us if you are unsure.

How do I know what service I need at my business or apartment complex?
For help in setting up service please contact our Service Representatives at (740) 354-2275. We will make sure you get exactly the service you need at the lowest cost.
What size enclosure do I need at my new business / apartment complex?
While state law requires adequate space be provided at all new commercial establishments for storage and access to garbage containers, needs vary according to your business and location. Our Route Manager can help design an appropriate enclosure, either with you or directly with your architect or contractor. For help in setting up service please contact us at (740) 354-2275.
Where can I pay my bill?
We try to make paying your bill as convenient as possible. You can always mail your bill to our office with the address provided on your statement. However, there are several options for payment delivery:
